We meet at a group member's home to listen to and discuss a programme of jazz music on a theme usually chosen by the group leader, with members chosing the tracks they would like to hear. In doing so, we aim to widen our appreciation of different styles of jazz and learn more about the history of the music and the musicians who made it. Members have a wide range of musical interests and knowledge and new members can expect a warm welcome whatever their experience or preferred jazz style.

On most months the programme will be downloaded to a Spotify playlist which everyone can access and play at home at their convenience. Sometimes we watch a programme of Youtube jazz videos on a member's large smart TV with the programme notes containing the links to each video, so they can be watched at home by those unable to attend the meeting.

All Watford Park members can access past programmes by clicking the link (in blue)

Non-members wishing to know more can contact the Group Leader via the Interest Group Coordinator by clicking on the 'Contact Us' tab above.

 Some past programmes have included:

  • Impulse! Records
  • Some Modern Big Bands - our first virtual meeting programme (held in April 2020)
  • Lost Jazz Albums - albums recorded some 40/50 yrs ago that 'disappeared' and were only recently released
  • Hard Bop
  • I Got Rhythm - the role of George Gershwin's tune in jazz improvisation
  • Some modern female vocalists
  • Feeling the Vibes - a short history of a long instrument
  • Jazz on a Summer's Day - a Zoom session featuring Youtube videos filmed at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival
